OA Training

HEH is involved in training ophthalmic assistants from the very beginning of its establishment. It has been recognized as one of the training centers by Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh. OA is a middle level ophthalmic manpower, who can render primary eye care service, perform refraction, prescribe spectacles, carry out minor surgical procedures and assist ophthalmologists in major surgery. This manpower is considered as the backbone of Eye Care Service in Nepal as we have very limited ophthalmologists. HEH, so far, has enrolled OA trainees in 11 batches and among them candidates up to 9th batches (112 in numbers) have already completed their training. The OA trained by this hospital now are working in different eye hospitals and primary eye care centers through out the country. OAs trained by this hospital have also got opportunity in foreign employment. Almost a dozen of OAs trained by this hospital is now working in gulf countries as skilled manpower. At present, 29 trainees are undergoing training in 10th and 11th batches.
